Thursday morning at 6 am. we took off early and left for Utah. All in all it was a lovely trip. Elliott took her normal naps, and didn’t seem too bothered by her extended stay in the car seat with minimal whining on occasion (not much different than how she is at home).
Here she is at hour three, right after waking up from her morning sleep:
And here she is at hour 10; not much different 🙂
I didn’t take a lot of road trip pictures, because they would just have been a bunch of pictures of Elliott in a car seat, and of Ryan and I looking kind of gross. But we did drive past one of the six (count them, six) fires burning through Utah right now. This fire was about 20 miles south of Spanish Fork.
And here’s a shot of the sun shining through the smoke. It made everything look red.
It was kind of eerie to drive by/through it.
Actually, since we’ve been in Utah there was another fire started in a town about 10 miles away from us. They had to evacuate the neighborhood, and three homes burned down. CRAZY. There was one good thing that came out of it though; they had a lot of live coverage of people evacuating, trying to get animals out of the area, and there was one lady with a car full of turkeys, etc. who totally said the *F* word on live Utah TV. Hilarious.
So, back to non-fire news.
When we arrived at the Robbins’ house, I was surprised to find out that they didn’t even know we were coming. Everyone thought we were coming the next day. Also hilarious. “SURPRISE!”
Today we enjoyed a true Utah tradition for Ryan: The Training Table. It is a restaurant where you call your order in from a telephone at your table, and you’re not supposed to answer the phone when they “call” you back, that just means your food is ready (said the bus boy who looked at me like I was a moron). The food is yummy, especially the cheese fries!
Other than that, we are simply enjoying being around family. Elliott has warmed up to everyone except Uncle Jason, she’s currently in deliberation on how she feels about him. But, I’m sure it won’t take long for her to decide he’s great. She definitely LOVES her cousin Alahna though. We can’t wait for Tod and Pamela and little Clara to get here! It’s going to be great!
